Mapping climate change projections

The Voeikov Main Geophysical Observatory. This is where calculations are based on atmosphere-ocean coupled general circulation models and are done in cooperation with the global ‘modelling’ expert community.

Such models are the best available ‘instrument’ in the world for climate change projections. You can ‘map’ the projection for Russia online by selecting what you want to see: temperature, season, and period. You cannot make a one-year climate projection, because climate describes weather patterns over a certain period. Therefore, you can choose a period from the following ranges: 2011–2031, 2041–2060, 2080–2099.

But most importantly, you can choose one of three human action scenarios, which determine how atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases and aerosols will be changing.

This is exactly the key factor driving climate change in the 21st century as a whole.
